There's a beautiful, exotic plant that is believed to cure all illnesses. This plant is said to provide everlasting life to all of mankind. It is said that this plant is powerful enough to bring love and joy to its surroundings. It has stength and valour, patience and endurance, kindness and mercy. If you had this plant, would you water it everyday? Would you give it the right amount of sunlight that it needs to grow? Would you protect it so that poisonous species could not harm it? I bet you think you would, until you have it and you don't. How do I know? Because I have this beautiful plant sitting in my garden and for all of 2015 I watched it dry up.

For a while now I have been struggling with the ups and downs of this journey to follow Christ. I would ask Him what to do and then do the opposite of what He said, I would pray but never felt like my prayers reached Him, I would tell Him I loved Him only to allow my actions to show otherwise. My spirit was dry... my plant was dying. I used to hear Him speak to warn me, to motivate me, to accompany me everywhere I go until all of a sudden I couldn't hear Him anymore- my spirit was dry... my plant was dying. I couldn't tell if the devil was trying to tempt me, if I was creating my own thoughts for my own pleasure or if God was truly the one guiding me, all of a sudden He was silent- my spirit was dry... my plant was dying. He wasn't silent because He gave up on me or because He had nothing to say, He was silent because I was no longer listening to Him. I had neglected to speak to Him daily for so long that I had forgotten the sound of His voice. Both of my ears were closed shut and I was yelling "God, God, where are you? Help me! Tell me what to do!" Meanwhile He was standing next to me asking: "When was the last time you watered me? If I am truly your beautiful, exotic plant why do you neglect me? Why are you not taking care of me? Why are you not spending time with me? Why are you not feeding me?"

Ladies and gentleman when was the last time you stepped away from the world (social media, relationships, school, work) to talk to God? When was the last time you were silent to listen to the sound of His voice so that you could become familiar with it? When was the last time you went out on a date with God? His children is to have a relationship with Him. 1 Corinthians 6 Verse 17: He calls us to unite with Him so that we can be "One with Him in Spirit." It is not enough to praise Him at church or to pray during prayer service or to read your word during bible study, you must do this everyday. This is a lifestyle. You don't eat only on somedays, you feed your flesh everyday and several times a day, so why not feed your spirit? He's hungry, and yet you starve Him- your spirit is dry... your plant is dying.

Look at it this way, you don't talk to your boyfriend/girlfriend simply every now and then, you talk to them every single day, a couple times a day because you are in a relationship with them. You can't simply tell you husband/wife you love them, there comes actions that must follow those words. James 2 Verse 17: "Faith without works is dead" and so is love without action; similar to faith, your love will been shown through the things you do. Therefore if you are truly in a loving relationship with the Lord; talk to Him daily (every hour of those days, every minute of those hours, every second of those minutes- keep Him in mind), make time for Him, put Him before everyone else, ask Him to guide you, obey Him, take Him on dates, build a relationship with Him before you go building one with anyone else in this world because He is love. How will you know how to respect each other, listen to one another, be patient with one another, make sacrifces for each other if you don't first learn it from the Creator? He is your father.. He is to be your first love, your first yes, your first I do!

Last night, the shortest verse in the bible came to mind- John 11 Verse 35: "Jesus wept." My spirit guided me to read the chapter and when I did, it moved me. In the chapter, Jesus did not cry because He was betrayed by His own people though He was, He did not cry because He was going to be killed though He would be, He did not cry because He sacrificed everything to come and save us though He did... He cried because He saw His people crying over Lazarus' death. I couldn't believe it! The lover of my soul, God Himself, was moved by the death of His child and the tears of those whom He loved so much that HE WEPT... let me say that again JESUS WEPT. The King of all kings, God of all gods, Lord of all lords, in human form, cried because of His people's pain not minding His own which was soon to come. Our God longs for a relationship with us and yet we can't even carve out some time out of the 24 hours He gave to us to ask Him how His day is going, to tell Him a joke, to ask Him what His plans are, to invite Him to have lunch with us, to read what He has to say. Yet He patiently waits. Oh man what a God! I recently started to invite Him into every part of my life and now I can hear Him loud and clear. I set out time for Him alone and now I have the greatest relationship in the world. If you find that your spirit is dry, fix it before it is too late. Feed it by make time for God. If you want your plant to become a strong, fruitful tree that won't wither away you must take care of it. It does not have to be anything big, just take it one step at a time and watch how quickly it grows. So before you go building relationships with the world and wondering why you can't hear God, grab your waterpot and head over to your plant because that beautiful, exotic plant is thirsty for more of you.
